On Biofeedback, Electrical Stimulation, and Incontinence.

John Whyte, MD, of HCFA has requested that professional organizations discuss their positions on incontinence treatments among themselves, before the Medicare Coverage Advisory Committee's public hearing on April 12-13, 2000 in Baltimore.  Below are all statements that we have received to date.

Dr. John Perry's Recommendations to the Coalition for Utilization Parameters. (June, 1999) (See excerpts at http://www.incontinet.com/ccsuggestions.htm).

The Coalition's "Biofeedback Utilization Parameters" were submitted to HCFA on September 22, 1999.  (See http://www.incontinet.com/ccbiofbup.htm)

The Coalition's "Utilization Parameters" for Electrical Stimulation for Incontinence.  (See http://www.incontinet.com/ccestimup.htm).

The American Urogynecologic Society (AUGS) sent a position statement; a description (not the full text) appears on their website.

The Association for Applied Psychophysiology and Biofeedback (AAPB) reviewed the Coalition's Biofeedback Utilization Parameters and voted to "endorse" them -- with seven important qualifications and corrections.  (See http://www.incontinet.com/bfviewofup.htm).

The AAPB also submitted (1) a letter (http://www.incontinet.com/aapbestimltr.htm), (2) a critique (http://www.incontinet.com/aapbestimup.htm), and (3) an article (http://www.incontinet.com/isestimadrug.htm) in response to the Coalition's Utilization Parameters for Electrical Stimulation

Dr. John Perry, the psychologist who invented the EMG vaginal sensor and developed the first protocols for EMG biofeedback for incontinence, submitted a cover letter (See http://www.incontinet.com/perrycoverltr.htm)

and a critique of the Monaco Report, (http://www.incontinet.com/monaco.htm.)
